Jason,
Sonia, Gabriel and Giovanna Butler
The Butler family exists to spread a passion
for God's glory among the least-reached peoples of the world.
Jason
grew up in seven different states in the United States. He was reared
in a nominally Christian home, but did not come to know the Lord Jesus
Christ until he was 16 years old. Soon thereafter he sensed the Lord's
call on his life for fulltime ministry. In 1987, he helped Dr. Bill Jones
found Crossover Communications International (CCI), a mission agency which
focuses on church planting among the least reached peoples of Eurasia.
After graduating from Georgia State University in 1989 with a degree in
sociology and a minor in Spanish, Jason moved to Brussels, Belgium, where
he served as the Youth Pastor at the International Baptist Church until
1994, and ministered among the diverse international community in Brussels,
as well as throughout Western and Eastern Europe. While in Brussels he
completed his masters degree in practical theology but, more significantly,
through his study of the Bible and books like John Piper's Let the Nations
Be Glad, he became increasingly aware of God's desire to be glorified
among all the peoples of the world, especially those totally unreached
with the Gospel. With this growing conviction came a sense that God was
leading him in a new direction. By 1996, under the Holy Spirit's leadership,
and realizing the huge missionary potential of the rapidly growing Brazilian
Church, Jason moved to Brazil in order to partner with Dr. Roberto Silvado
to found CCI-Brasil, a Brazilian missions organization focused on planting
churches among Muslims in Eurasia. He continues to serve as Executive
Director of that organization, as well as write, recruit, preach, teach
and train for missions in numerous churches, conferences and seminaries
each year, and is currently working on a doctorate in missiology.
Not long after beginning to minister in Brazil, Jason fell head over heels
in love with an incredible Brazilian named Sonia, who shared his passion
for God's glory among the nations. Sonia holds a bachelors degree in Physical
Education from the Federal University of Paraná and is certified
by the Cooper Institute as a personal trainer. While she enjoys working
as a personal trainer and aerobics instructor, her real joy comes from
rearing their two small children, Gabriel ( Dec. 1st, 1998) and Giovanna
(May 24th, 2001), supporting Jason and participating with him in ministry,
and discipling young women to be faithful followers and worshippers of
the Father.
